Airside LiabilityCover for liability (including motor liability) for work in an airside setting
All RisksCover for items away from the insured premises (i.e laptops, mobile phones, etc)
Book DebtsCover for loss of manual ledgers (i.e through fire), resulting in a financial loss.   This cover has become less popular in recent years, because of the storage of data on computer
BreakdownSpecialist coverage to cover the breakdown of plant/equipment
Business CarA policy to cover company vehicle(s)
Business from HomeA policy for persons working from home.  The policy may include cover for stock, liability, money etc
Business Interruption (Loss of Profits)Cover for the interruption to a business which arises following a specific event, the main one being damage to property (i.e fire, flood etc), but can sometimes be extended to cover other specific situations.
Business Legal ExpensesCover to protect a business for the legal costs arising from various situations, which can include employment disputes, debt recovery, property protection etc.

Cargo / Marine Cargo

 

Traditionally called Marine Cargo insurance.   Cover for goods in transit, either in the UK and/or overseas.   Transits can be by air, sea or road.  These policies can usually be tailored specifically to a policyholder’s exact requirements
Commercial CombinedA policy to provide various types of cover, as required by the policyholder (i.e Property, Liability, Business Interruption, Computers etc).
Commercial VehicleA policy to cover commercial company vehicle(s) – i.e vans/trucks

Computers

 

Cover for Computers, at the insured premises or elsewhere in the UK/World.  Policy can often be extended to cover Increased Cost of Working or Reinstatement of Data
Contract WorksCover for the Contract Works (i.e Materials on site / work in progress) in respect of work undertaken.  This cover is not provided under a Public Liability policy, so a separate Contract Works cover is required

Contractors

 

Cover for contracting firms.   Cover will usually include Public/Employers Liability, often with the ability to add Own Plant, Hired In Plant, Contract Works etc
Corporate LiabilityCorporate Liability cover protects a company in respect of many types of legal situations, arising from a variety of situations, including health & safety, environmental and legislative type situations
Credit InsuranceCover to protect against bad debts / late payers

Crime Insurance

 

A policy to protect against theft from a company.   Such theft could include cyber-theft, invoice fraud, internal (employee) theft etc
CyberThis is a fairly new type of policy, providing cover for cyber-related incidents.  Policies can include system damage, business interruption, data loss, investigation costs.   Cover provided will vary from policy to policy and insurer to insurer.

Directors & Officers Liability

 

Cover to protect Directors/Officers in their personal capacity for their running of a company.  Claims can arise from financial, environmental, health & safety issues etc.
Employment Practices LiabilityCover for a company’s liability for its employment of staff.   Claims can arise from unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal etc.   These policies are usually wider in scope than a typical business legal expenses policy
EngineeringA specialist type of policy, designed to cover equipment (i.e machine, lifts, computers etc) against loss/theft/damage
Engineering InspectionA service provided by insurers for the statutory inspection of plant/equipment (i.e lifting plant / pressure plant)
Excess Employers LiabilityA ‘top up’ policy that sits on top of a primary Employers Liability policy, in order to provide a higher level of cover.   Sometimes, this is a more cost-affective option than the primary insurer providing the full amount.
Excess Public LiabilityA ‘top up’ policy that sits on top of a primary Public Liability policy, in order to provide a higher level of cover.   Sometimes, this is a more cost-affective option than the primary insurer providing the full amount
Farmers CombinedA commercial combined-style policy, designed to cover farms, and the various covers that a farmer may require (including liability, stock, contents etc)
FlatsCover for purpose-built or converted flats
GlassCover for damage/breakage to glass within a building

Goods in Transit

 

Cover for loss or damage to goods in transit, usually within the UK (for overseas transits, see Cargo Insurance)

Group Personal Accident

 

Cover for injury to employees.   Cover can include ‘Temporary Total Disablement’ (i.e breaking a leg), Permanent Total Disablement and Death.   Policy benefits will vary from policy to policy, but can usually be tailored to a policyholder’s requirements
Holiday HomeA household-style policy for 2nd homes, holiday lets, pied-à-terres etc.   Cover can include Buildings, Contents etc

Hotels/Guesthouses

 

A package policy, designed to provide an option of covers for hotels/guesthouses, including Buildings/Contents/Public & Employers Liability
Household (including Prestige Household)

Cover for household buildings and/or contents, including the ability to include jewellery, art, antiques etc.

 

Prestige Household policies are available for larger homes or those with higher levels of contents/jewellery etc

Intellectual PropertyA specialist policy designed to provide protection to the owner of intellectual property including designs, patents etc.
Loss RecoveryA specialist policy, designed to cover the costs of a Loss Adjuster/Claims Handler, following a Property Damage claim (i.e fire, flood, storm etc)

Medical Malpractice

 

A specialist policy (similar to professional indemnity) which provides protection against client/patient liability arising from medical services, including beauty, dental, homeopathic etc.

Money

 

Cover for loss/theft of money, cash and other forms of near-cash items (such as stamps, vouchers etc)
Motor FleetA policy to cover company vehicle(s).   Can include a combination of vans/cars.   Can sometimes be extended to include director-owned vehicles.    Often available for fleets of 2 vehicles and above
Motor Legal ExpensesCover in respect of legal costs incurred following a motor accident (i.e to recover costs of injury and other uninsured losses)
Motor Trade

Motor Trade policies can provide a range of optional covers (including Road Risks, Damage to Vehicles, Equipment etc) for motor trade firms

 

 

Non Negligent LiabilityThis is a specialist cover, designed for contractors or property owners, who potentially have liabilities arising from non-negligent situations.   Liability will often arise under JCT conditions (i.e 6.5.1) or The Party Wall Act
OfficeA package policy, designed to cover multiple covers that an office-based company may require, including Buildings, Contents, Computers, Public & Employers Liability etc
Private CarA policy to cover private car(s).  Various levels of cover are available – Third Party Only, Third Party, Fire & Theft, Comprehensive
Products LiabilityCover in respect of 3rd party claims (damage/injury) arising from goods supplied.     This type of cover will be required by a retailer, wholesaler, manufacturer or other supplier of goods
Professional IndemnityProfessional Indemnity policies provide cover in respect of liability arising from breach of professional duty (such as negligent design, advice, specification etc.)
Property Owners / LandlordsA package policy, designed to cover multiple sections of cover that a Property Owners/ Landlord may require, including Buildings, Public Liability, Loss of Rent (following damage to the property) etc
Public LiabilityCover in respect of 3rd party claims (damage or injury) arising from the activities of a business
Pubs/RestaurantPolicies for Pubs/Restaurants are typically package policies which will cover a number of sections, including Buildings/Contents/Public & Employers Liability etc.
ShopsPolicies for Shops are typically package policies which will cover a number of sections, including Buildings/Contents/Public & Employers Liability etc.
Sprinkler LeakageThis is a specialist type of cover.    Usually added as an extra section onto a Buildings policy
SurgeriesA package policy, designed to cover multiple covers that an surgery-based company may require, including Buildings, Contents, Computers, Public & Employers Liability etc

Tradespersons

 

Cover for contractors below a certain turnover/size.   Cover can often include Public/Employers Liability, sometimes with the option to include Plant, Tools, Contract Works etc
Yacht/Pleasure CraftCover for vessels, including Motor Boats, Yachts etc.   Policies will typically cover a variety of perils, including accidental damage, sinking etc, as well as liability
